Henry Grattan - Greeting Card - Port Gaverne

Port Gaverne developed in the nineteenth century as a port exporting Delabole slate in sailing ships which were wide enough to sit on the beach on their flat bottoms to facilitate loading when the tide retreated.

Today at low tide there is a small but sheltered sandy beach for safe bathing, as well as numerous rock pools to provide added interest.
